Confidential counseling services covering a range of issues—including depression, anxiety, life changes and more—are provided by an EAP care coordinator, who serves as your personal point of contact, confidentially assesses your problems, assists with emergencies and connects you to appropriate resources. Up to five free sessions are available to you and your household members per year. If longer counseling is needed, BHS will help coordinate obtaining care through your medical carrier.

The MedStar 403(b) plan is a tax-deferred savings account that offers professionally managed investment options and a 50% match of investments, up to 6% of earnings. You are 100% vested in your personal contributions from day one. After three years, you are fully vested in MedStar’s matching contribution.
The MedStar 457(b) plan provides an additional way to save for retirement, with the potential for tax savings and earnings growth. Plan participation does not require reducing contributions to your 403(b), and your contributions and any earnings are not taxed until you receive them.
This voluntary after-tax program provides supplemental retirement income and life insurance protection to eligible physicians. Your after-tax contributions, which are invested in a variable universal life insurance policy, are eligible for a match from MedStar Health equal to 50% of your after-tax contributions, up to a maximum of 10% of your total compensation. Like the MedStar 457(b) plan, the CAP provides you with the opportunity to supplement your retirement savings.

To accomplish this, one of the primary changes of MedStar Medical Group is the activation, development and guidance of specialty-specific clinical practice councils. The councils guide the professional practice of medicine and create consistent models of care, focusing attention on information management, including the optimization of the Cerner® electronic medical record; quality and safety; clinical practice guidelines to reduce variation and enhance outcomes; operational efficiency; and value analysis of medical and surgical equipment and supplies. The work of the practice councils will advance our care delivery model, while providing a voice for MedStar providers with respect to how they practice medicine.

Our aim is to involve clinicians, and the teams who work with them, in the meaningful development of how we consistently, effectively and seamlessly deliver care across our Distributed Care Delivery Network.
