Academic Hospitalist Physician Opening at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.

Position Summary:

We are excited to announce an opening for an academic hospitalist at MedStar Washington Hospital Center for this upcoming academic year. As an academic hospitalist, you will work year-round on the teaching service both on the medical wards and in the intermediate medical care unit, providing both supervision in the care of patients provided by the resident teams and in the education of third- and fourth-year medical students, interns, and residents. This is a full-time position where you will be able to spend focused time in the education of residents and medical students, allowing for daily didactics in education and bedside rounding to excel resident learning. We have a strong commitment to patient care, education, and the ability to work well in a team setting.

Additional qualifications and responsibilities that are expected of each one of our academic hospitalists are:
  1. Completing timely monthly evaluations of all medical students and residents, including direct in-person feedback during monthly rotations and written evaluations at the end of the month.
  2. Attending scheduled faculty meetings, grand rounds and CPC during "on" workweeks.
  3. Inpatient-medicine-based lectures and conferences for residents/medical students/faculty (minimum two/year or as assigned).
  4. Mentoring residents on poster presentation at local and national conferences, case studies, publications, and research.
  5. Interviewing of residency candidates during interview season yearly.
  6. Georgetown Medical student teaching, including the second-year physical diagnosis course.
  7. Applying for/maintaining Georgetown University Medical School faculty appointment.

We are opening applications to all candidates interested in a career in academic hospital medicine, both internally and throughout MedStar Health. Candidates who have both work and teaching experience and superior teaching evaluations will be prioritized. Position requires MD/DO degree or foreign equivalent and completion of thirty-six (36) months of ACGME-accredited internal medical residency. The role requires a valid D.C. medical license and American Board certification (or eligibility) in internal medicine.
