Position Summary:

MedStar Seeks an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner for its new Thrombectomy-Certified Stroke Program at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center

MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center (MFSMC), a member of MedStar Health, is seeking an experienced nurse practitioner to join its multidisciplinary team of nurse practitioners and physicians focused on state-of-the-art stroke management. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of tertiary-level inpatient experience. Neurology, neurosurgery, or stroke-related experience is preferred but not required. In this role, the NP will be a first responder for stroke patients presenting to the emergency department. S/he will perform initial and ongoing patient assessments, initiate acute TPA orders and diagnostic imaging studies, and will further develop treatment plans in collaboration with the attending neurovascular interventionalists, stroke neurologists, and neurocritical care specialists. In addition, the incumbent may assist with patient management in the interventional suite. As an integral member of the team, the NP will have a keen interest in, and input into, the continued growth and expansion of the neurovascular intervention program as MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center pursues its goal of Comprehensive Stroke Certification... This is a 24/7 operation with an anticipated schedule of three 12-hour shifts/week as part of a full team on NPs.

MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center opened a state-of-the-art neurovascular intervention suite, as well as a new helipad—both adjacent to its emergency room—last year. Thrombectomy certification from The Joint Commission and Maryland Health Care Commission was obtained in early 2022. MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center operates a 15-bed dedicated neurocritical care unit, staffed by 3 board-certified neuro-critical care intensivists.

The service at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center represents an expansion of MedStar Health's neurovascular intervention program, the largest and most experienced in the area, employing ten (10) neurovascular interventionalists across the system in Baltimore; Washington, D.C.; and Virginia. The program is a part of the larger MedStar Health neurosciences platform that has subspecialty neurologic care in all areas of neurology and neurosurgery.
