Position Summary:

We are seeking a full-time, call-taking, high-quality Cardiac Anesthesiologist to join MedStar Medical Group Anesthesiology (MMGA) at our MedStar Washington Hospital Center (MWHC) in Washington, D.C. Cardiac experience is preferred, but not necessary. We expect candidates to possess advanced PTEeXAM certification or commit to obtaining it within three years. MWHC is a tertiary referral, 900-bed, level 1 trauma center serving our nation’s capital and greater metropolitan region.

The Cardiac Anesthesia division currently has 11 anesthesiologists and is expanding due to increased volume. The team covers surgical hearts, structural heart procedures, and major vascular procedures, including open and endovascular thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysm repairs. Cardiac procedures include CABG, valve repair and replacement, LVAD, heart transplantation, and ECMO. Roughly 10% of your time will be spent with non-cardiovascular cases, usually for patients with complex cardiac conditions.

MMGA highly values a balance between strong work ethic and quality of life. Typical days start at 6am with relief time ranging from early afternoon to early evening, depending on prior day relief. There are two daily call positions: 1st call starts at 3:30pm and has the next day off; 2nd call starts at 6am and is usually relieved between 7 and 9pm.

MWHC is located in the heart of our nation’s capital, three miles north of the U.S. Capitol building. Washington, D.C., is a vibrant cosmopolitan city that plays host to five professional sports teams, exceptional dining and theater opportunities, and free world-class museums, while being served by three airports. It is close to beaches and national parks and is at the southern end of the Amtrak Northeast Corridor train line, serving Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, and Boston.

As an MMG Anesthesiology employee, you can expect:
  • Excellent, comprehensive compensation plan
  • Benefits package including health, vision, and dental insurance and 403b and 457 retirement plans with matching
  • Generous paid time off (PTO)
  • Annual CME fund
  • All licensure-related expenses
