Hybrid/Telehealth Adult Psychiatrist Opening, Community Involvement with Care Transformation Organization - MedStar Health, Baltimore

Monday through Friday

Baltimore, MD

Position Summary:

MedStar Health, one of the nation's most recognized, respected, and comprehensive health systems and largest not-for-profit organization is excited to announce the addition of an Adult Psychiatrist to our Care Transformation Organization (CTO). The CTO has developed a new and exciting team-based, community-based service that provides a holistic care approach for individuals with co-occurring behavioral health and chronic medical conditions. This new Health Equity And Resource Transformation (HEART) team is composed of a psychiatrist, behavioral health therapists, RNs, care managers, a dietician, community health workers, peer recovery workers, and a vocational specialist. Working collaboratively with the individual patient's primary care provider, the HEART team aims to restore health and improve community, daily living, personal, and social skills while reducing incidence of behavioral health or medical crises that lead to unnecessary use of the hospital system. Be part of the next stage of our program's growth as we seek to expand by adding a BC/BE Adult Psychiatrist to meet the needs of our sickest, most socioeconomically challenged patients. The HEART team is modeled after Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), an evidence-based practice that offers community-based integrated services to individuals diagnosed and living with severe and persistent mental illnesses. The goal of the HEART team is to reduce hospitalizations and divert crises by treating a core part of patient's overall health that can prevent them from caring for their co-morbidities. Our ideal candidate will have a sincere interest in community-based integrated services and be sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations while caring for their mental illness, e.g., depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, and addictions. Addiction certification a plus, but not required.

Step into a career-building, attractive opportunity where you'd see a variety of patients and be part of a novel and progressive program. This position highlights a smaller caseload with no billing responsibilities. Encounter excellent working relationships with our CTO team and consult with PCPs and behavioral health therapists regularly. Candidate will work in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry and Psychiatry Residency of Georgetown University and our new psychiatry residency program in Baltimore (set to start 2025).

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, telehealth visits, phone calls and in-the-community and in-the home physician/RN visits, primarily in Baltimore. The majority of patient encounters are expected to take place virtually via telehealth visits, but in-person visits will be necessary depending on clinical need and available resources. This Monday through Friday position includes a light call component and home office would be based in Rosedale, Maryland, where our CTO operates from. Psychiatrist will have a strong understanding of psychopharmacological medical management, be an advocate of social justice, and be passionate about public health.
