Inpatient Acute Care General Surgery Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (Non-Surgical) for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center

We are looking for a nurse practitioner or physician assistant to function independently as an inpatient acute care advanced practice provider within our established General Surgery/Integrated Surgery department at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center. Our exceptional team of general surgeons, as well as advanced practice providers, has vast experience with managing a broad spectrum of urgent and non-urgent general surgical conditions. Using a multidisciplinary, integrated approach, we partner with other disciplines, such as colorectal, breast, thoracic, plastic, bariatric, transplant, oncology, radiology, and pathology. This approach provides patients with high-quality care that is unmatched in our service area and a pivotal part of our general surgeons' philosophy of care.

The APP in this role will be responsible for assessing and coordinating care for the pre- and post-general surgery population, solely in the inpatient setting at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center. Responsibilities include General Surgery inpatient consults and facilitating discharges. This position will not include any APP surgical responsibilities.

New graduates with acute care, post-acute, and/or a general surgery nursing background are welcome to apply. Nurse practitioners who apply for this role are preferred to be an ACNP. We cannot accept FNPs for this role. The ideal candidate will have thorough documentation skills and a great work ethic and be able to work autonomously while being connected regularly with administrative and provider support. Patient care review meetings occur daily with surgeons, and you'll be part of weekly multidisciplinary huddles as well. Dedicated office space is in the professional building in direct connection with the hospital.

The schedule for this role will be Monday through Friday, as a full-time, 1.0 FTE APP working eight hours per day. This job excludes holidays, weekends, after-hours, or call responsibilities.
