Position Summary:

This position offers you the opportunity to work alongside other physician assistants and hospitalists providing exceptional care to the inpatient units at MedStar Franklin Square with some rotation to MedStar Harbor Hospital possible. The schedule includes three 12-hour night shifts (7pm – 7:30am) with every third weekend and one summer and one winter holiday.

Job Summary:
Performs a variety of duties such as history and physicals, and provides care to assigned patients. Assesses, diagnoses, and documents findings. Writes medical orders and/or prescriptions. Makes clinical decisions relative to patient management through collaboration with physicians.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education/Training: Graduation from a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: No experience required. Experience highly preferred.
  • License/Certification/Registration:  National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification. Current license with the Maryland Board of Physicians. Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Communicates any clinical change in patient status with attending physician.
  • Complies with billing requirements and expectations.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Dictates discharge summaries as appropriate.
  • Documents legibly and accurately in progress notes.
  • Facilitates patient admission, including assessment, orders, medication reconciliation, and discussion with attending physician.
  • Facilitates patient flow with attention to triage.
  • Facilitates placing patient in Observation Status, including timely orders and follow-up.
  • Performs assessment, treatment, and documentation of urgent and emergent patient issues.
  • Supports department through interdisciplinary and staff meeting participation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
