Inpatient Physician Assistant – MedStar Harbor Hospital

This position offers you the opportunity to work on a surgical unit in a small community hospital but have access to the resources provided by a large healthcare system. In this inpatient setting, you will have a set Monday through Friday, 7am-3:30pm schedule with rotating on-call requirements.

Some primary duties and responsibilities include:
  • Developing treatment plan and discussing proposed course of treatment with patient's attending physician and other healthcare team members as appropriate, including consultants and referrals.
  • Functioning under surgeon's direction as a surgical assistant. Assisting in necessary preparations prior to and after surgery.
  • Monitoring patients and communicating significant patient findings or changes in patients' status to the appropriate physician.
  • Obtaining detailed and accurate history, performing physical examinations, and reviewing medical records to assess patients' health status.
  • Performing emergency life-saving procedures as appropriate.
  • Performing necessary rounds independently or with the attending physician and/or residents.
  • Performing procedures as appropriate for patient care. Writing appropriate order sets, including medications.

To qualify for this position, the Physician Assistant must have:
  • Education/Training – Graduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience – Three years of surgical experience highly preferred.
  • License/Certification/Registration – National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification. Current license with the Maryland Board of Physicians. Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities – Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred.
