Outpatient Heart Failure Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Opportunity at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital

We are looking for a nurse practitioner or physician assistant to join our growing Heart Failure team at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital. This advanced practice provider will work with the advanced heart failure physicians to support their outpatient practice and participate in the physician clinics. In addition, the responsibilities will be:
  • Having their own VAD clinic.
  • Responsible for dressing changes.
  • Conducting an interrogation of the VAD.
  • Maintaining documentation of all VAD and transplant patients send to D.C.
  • Scheduling and reviewing all tests and bloodwork for VAD/transplant patients.
  • Scheduling and reviewing all tests and bloodwork for patients with inotropes.

Our surgeons have been implanting LVADs since 1988, and we were among the first four hospitals in the world to perform this surgery. Since then, we have pioneered the design of LVADs and novel surgical techniques for implanting them. Heart programs around the world consult the doctors in our Advanced Heart Failure Program for assistance and advice.

We currently care for more than 100 people with LVADs, many of whom have been living with this technology for many years. Our team includes experienced LVAD coordinators, along with dedicated pharmacists, physical therapists, nutritionists, and other advanced heart failure specialists.  

The shifts for this role will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There will be no holidays, evenings, or weekends.

Applicants will NEED to have LVAD experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education/Training: Graduate from an accredited physician assistant or nurse practitioner program.
  • Experience: Applicants will NEED to have LVAD experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred.
