Position Summary:

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is seeking an experienced Interventional Radiology Nurse Practitioner.

This prestigious hospital has been recognized for many awards, including “Tops Doctors” for 2015, where 96 physicians from MedStar Georgetown were honored. MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is a not-for-profit, acute-care teaching and research hospital with 609 beds located in northwest Washington, D.C. In collaboration with an attending physician, the Interventional Radiology Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the direct care and follow-up of a population of patients that matches his/her scope of practice and skill set. The components of the role include clinical practice, consultation, professional development, education, and research.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Utilize advanced assessment skills to manage a cohort of patients. Perform and document daily assessments.
  • Collect and analyze data and formulate a family-centered plan of care.
  • Assist with any needed advanced procedures that are listed within the Scope of Practice Document.
  • Evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of the prescribed treatment plan. Using the most current evidence, modifies the plan of care based on the effectiveness of the treatment and the patient/family response to the plan.
  • Serve as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing staff and provider team.
  • Act as a consultant to multidisciplinary healthcare team members.
  • Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate educational offerings. Participate in the professional development of others. Act as a preceptor and mentor to support the development of nurses, nurse practitioners, students, and other healthcare providers.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing practice to enhance safety. Share errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms. Demonstrate shared accountability for safe practice.
  • Ability to use computer and electronic medical records effectively.
