MedStar Health – Thoracic Surgeon

MedStar Health is seeking a BC/BE Thoracic Surgeon to serve as the Regional Chief of Thoracic Surgery for MedStar Baltimore. This is an incredible opportunity for a candidate looking to help grow a regional program. Candidates should be excellent communicators and clinicians, have exceptional surgical technique, and have leadership qualities with a strong interest in supporting resident/medical student education.

The ideal candidate should have:
  • At least four years of clinical experience after completion of their ACGME-accredited cardiothoracic residency program.
  • Ability to provide the full spectrum of non-cardiac general thoracic surgical services, including treatment of benign and malignant pulmonary and esophageal disorders.
  • Added training or qualifications in minimally invasive surgical techniques, including thoracoscopy or robotics, is desired and support for advanced training will be offered.

The region's flagship hospital, MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center (MFSMC) is opening a new 80,000-square-foot operating room pavilion, is home to a busy robotics program, and has a long-standing general surgery residency.

MedStar Health is a large, not-for-profit healthcare corporation providing services in central/southern Maryland and the District of Columbia. As part of their Distributed Care Delivery Network, MedStar operates four acute care hospitals providing inpatient services in the Baltimore region.

This region comprises MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital, MedStar Union Hospital, MedStar Harbor Hospital, MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, and over fourteen outpatient sites. MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center has a large interventional pulmonology and pulmonary medicine practice, as well as established clinical programs in gastroenterology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, and critical care medicine. The thoracic surgery team is located at the Angelos Center for Lung Diseases and works collaboratively with physicians at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Cancer Institute, both located at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center. Opportunities for research/product development exist within the MedStar Health Research Institute  and the MedStar Innovation Institute.
